After September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, New York, world economy comes into shambles and one of those greatly hit down was the New York cinema industry. To help and empower back the glory of cinemas and the movies, Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro’s combined efforts founded Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking center and be one in the community’s effort to sustain for the long term recovery of lower Manhattan area, the place so devastated by the 2001 terrorists attacks. For three consecutive years Persol has been partnering as sponsor to Tribeca’s annual New York event from April 18 to 29. The partnership features the ‘8 days of Persol’ short movie shown before each film showing during the festival. They were 8 short films of 8 international directors about their vision on creation.
Persol also sponsored the after party showing of the documentary film ‘I Got Somethin’ to Tell You,’ directed by none other than Whoopi Goldberg in memory of the comedy star Moms Mabley. The Directors Brunch event of the film festival was attended by Andrea Dorigo, President of Luxottica USA. Dorigo was involved along with Tribeca’s founders in the selection of the best documentary and short narrative category. ‘A Friend of the Festival,’ Persol’s branded wall can be seen on the VIP Green Room of the festival.
